Democrat Jasmine Crockett Calls Murdered Activist Charlie Kirk “Racist” Just Hours Before His Memorial Service
Democrat Representative Jasmine Crockett labeled the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk as racist, just hours before his memorial service began. In an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on Sunday morning, Crockett claimed that Kirk had frequently spread “rhetoric specifically targeting people of color.”
Bash, who had just spoken with U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer before Crockett, noted that Crockett was among the 58 Democrats who voted against a resolution honoring Kirk. When asked about her decision, Crockett explained, “One of the things that really hurts my heart is that when I looked at the ‘No’ votes, there were only two white members. The rest, for the most part, were people of color.”
She continued, “The rhetoric Charlie Kirk continuously put out was harmful and specifically targeted people of color. It’s unfortunate that my colleagues didn’t see the harm in his words.”
Crockett also reflected on Kirk’s behavior leading up to his death, mentioning that he had spoken negatively about her on his podcast just a month before his assassination. “If there was any way I could honor someone who went out of his way to talk negatively about me and claim I was involved in the ‘great white replacement,’ then no, I can’t do that—especially as a civil rights attorney who knows how hard it was to get to Congress,” she said.
Her comments came just before Kirk’s memorial service at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Sunday, which drew over 200,000 mourners.
Kirk’s Widow, Erika, Discusses Death Penalty for Husband’s Alleged Killer
Ahead of her husband’s memorial, Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, was asked about her feelings regarding the alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, 22, facing the death penalty. Robinson was arrested two days after Charlie was fatally shot on September 10 while on the ‘American Comeback Tour’ in Utah.
Erika, former Miss Arizona, expressed that she didn’t want to make the decision herself. “I’ve had people ask me, ‘Do you feel anger toward this man? Do you want the death penalty?’” she told The New York Times. “I told our lawyer, I want the government to decide.”
She further explained, “I don’t want that man’s blood on my hands. When I get to heaven and Jesus asks me, ‘Eye for an eye— is that how we do it?’ I don’t want that to keep me from being with Charlie in heaven.”
The Moment Erika Kirk Learned of Her Husband’s Death
Speaking publicly for the first time since her emotional address just days after her husband’s death, Erika revealed how she learned of Charlie’s tragic shooting. She had planned to travel with him from Arizona to Utah that day, but had to stay behind to care for her mother, who was undergoing medical treatment.
At around 11:23 AM local time, Erika received a frantic call from Michael McCoy, her husband’s assistant, saying, “He’s been shot!” Erika immediately boarded one of Charlie’s chartered planes, but tragically, he was pronounced dead while she was en route.
“I looked out the window at the clouds and the mountains, and it was such a beautiful day. I thought to myself, ‘This is exactly what he last saw,’” she recalled.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Erika was offered the chance to view Charlie’s body, though a sheriff advised against it due to the severity of the bullet’s damage to his neck. Despite the recommendation, she insisted, saying, “With all due respect, I want to see what they did to my husband.”
When she saw his body, Erika shared, “His eyes were semi-open, and he had this knowing, Mona Lisa-like half-smile. It was like he died happy. Like Jesus rescued him.”
She kissed him before leaving the hospital, something she regretted not doing before he left for the tour that morning.
